Department for victim and witness support

Victim and witness support officers employed in the Department for victim and witness support are providing support to injured parties and witnesses or to their family members during the investigation stage, in all phases of the criminal or magistrate court proceeding as well as to injured parties referred from the police before the beginning of an investigation procedure.

The job of the support officers includes:
- Offering information about victims, injured parties and witness rights in the criminal or magistrate court proceeding,
- Offering practical information and help while residing in the Court building,
- Referral to specialized Institutions depending on victims, injured parties, witnesses and person that accompany them (family members) needs,
- Offering emotional support,
- Mediation with Court employees,
- Assistance to organize travel arrangements for injured parties and witnesses in war crime cases.

Važno je napomenuti da službenici za podršku kao i volonteri ne daju pravne savjete, niti provode psihološko savjetovanje ili psihoterapiju, ne razgovaraju o sadržaju iskaza svjedoka ili oštećenika. Službenici Odjela ne pružaju podršku maloljetnim žrtvama, oštećenicima ili svjedocima, za to je zadužen stručni suradnik/socijalni pedagog, zaposlenik suda.

Victim and witness support officers are offering support with the big help of volunteers, persons that are ready to give away their free time to help other people. If you have the wish to volunteer fill out the form and send it to the address mentioned on it.
